The Best Things in Parking…Counting Down to the MSTPA April Conference

By Mike Tudor

If you are like me, then there are certain things in life that only get better with time, and this is certainly true for many experiences and items in the parking industry. Here are the top 5 parking items that improve with time:

Number 5: Technology - License plate recognition (LPR), parking apps, gateless operations, and dashboards are just a few examples of continued progress made in the last several years that have revolutionized the parking industry.

Number 4: Space utilization - the curb space has become a robust area for all sorts of activities; and off-street spaces are being reinvented to meet new demands in a changing market.

Number 3: Parking programs - gone are the days of just relying on the traditional monthly parker for a large portion of the parking revenues. Carshare, flex passes and online reservations to meet the demands of a flexible work environment are the new norm.

Number 2: Parking relationships – like a fine wine or aged cheese, relationships in the parking industry mature and develop more character as time goes by. A parking professional never truly disappears after retirement, they just drive off into the sunset…or create a consulting business!

And the number 1 parking experience that only gets better with time is the Mid-South Transportation & Parking Association (MSTPA)! Each conference we strive to connect vendors and attendees, build out sessions for all levels of parking professionals and add value. This year is no exception as we welcome the Parking and Transportation Association of Georgia (PTAG) to the MSTPA family; hear from prominent leaders in the industry; and share time together in the beautiful city of Savannah.

In conclusion, while not all things get better with time, there are many experiences and items that can improve in quality, complexity, and value over time. MSTPA is one item that continues to improve and provide consistent quality and value over time. We cannot wait to see you at this year’s conference.
